Determining Your Music Storage Needs
1. Measure the number of filing inches in your current sheet music files (typical file drawers usually hold 25"
of files). Multiply this times the number of drawers = total current capacity (LFI). LFI = lineal filing inches.
2. Count the number of music selections in your library. This will determine the number of hanging compartments needed.
3. Measure your wall space and height availability. Shelving units come in increments of 36", 42" and 48" wide.
Standard heights are 76" high with 6 levels, and 88" high with 7 levels (other heights also available).
4. Music Filing System capacity is measured by the width of each shelf, multiplied by the number of levels.
For example, one 36" wide unit, 7 levels high = 252 LFI capacity.
Should you order 12" deep shelves or 15" deep shelves?
Almost all of your music files will fit into 12" deep compartments.
If you have your music files stored in legal size envelopes, you can
remove the music from the envelopes, and insert them directly into the
12" deep folders. However, if you want to keep your music in the legal
size envelopes, we do offer 15" deep legal size shelving and hanging
folders.
